Olympus E-620: Twist and Swivel all You Want
Showing sophistication with its superb feature set, the new Olympus E-620 digital SLR is a Four Thirds DSLR that shows image quality and handling at its best. The ISO settings, which could be maximized up to 800, are magnificent enough to bring this camera to the hall of excellent Four Thirds range. The aesthetics of this camera far outshines most of the DLSRs on the market with the bright optical viewfinder and the crystal clear screen for image playback. The Olympus E-620 is probably one of the best cameras the company has to offer today, with the JPEG results much better than the previous Olympus digital SLRs. One concern, however, still remains unimproved by this well-known manufacturer- the Art Filters. In terms of image quality, the Olympus E-620 digital SLR is definitely a top notch camera. The tonality and color shown in the image outputs are of high quality even at low ISO settings of 200. The dynamic range and tonal response give an excellent effect on the details of the image results. In addition to this, the built-in Image Stabilization causes fast shooting to be more efficient to the photographer, showing generally fast and responsive characteristics usually present in high-end DSLRs. The screen can be twisted and can swivel for better image viewing and for assuming more flexible shooting types. The sensor`s performance is maximized by the JPEG engine, while the RAW processing can be done within the camera itself.
The menus and controls are highly customizable and therefore this brings more comfort to the photographer. The ergonomics are superb, considering the well-placed external buttons and quick navigation of parts. The five cross-type AF points, together with the Auto Focus, are as reliable as its metering and exposure. The flash control was made wireless to provide better use of external flash guns. Also, the AF fine-tuning and the high sensitivity noise reduction are two features that make the Olympus E-620 digital SLR a one-of-a-kind camera.
This time, reviewers have found little drawbacks in Olympus E-620. One of these include the slow contrast detect AF in Live View, which is already a typical problem among DSLRs. Also, the LCD screen resolution is too reflective in bright light, and may not be useful on bright day light viewing. Lastly, the Viewfinder is obviously smaller than other APS-C cameras.
Called as the smallest Image Stabilized DSLR, the Olympus E-620 is generally great in terms of performance and image output.
