Sony a550 Digital SLR
Sony a550 Digital SLR
If you want to have a high end compact camera, better grab this one. The new Sony A550 digital SLR is so far the best among the Alpha series, having the competitive features like automatic HDR processing and high speed continuous. While Sony A550 is very impressive in terms of image output, it still has drawbacks to be considered seriously, like the poor photographic components that can be seen in camera of the same level. However, it is preferred by beginners since it lacks the complexity and sophistication of high end digital SLRs. The user interface is decent enough, although not as good as the other camera in the mid-range market.
One of the pros of Sony A550 digital SLR is the good JPEG dynamic range, having the best high ISO performance among the Alpha models. Also, the camera can be praised for the excellent image results it can deliver, especially in RAW. The camera stands bold with 7 frames per second shooting, and effective in-camera image stabilization. While the screen is impressive and the viewfinder was effectively improved, the Live-View Auto Focus system is remarkable with the new high quality main sensor. The user interface, although not as good as what A550's competitors have, is enhanced and more user-friendly than the older Alpha models.
The automatic HDR feature and the DRO shadow adjustment of Sony A550 digital SLR is excellent. The outstanding battery life has brought back the smiles of photographers who were really disappointed with Sony A500. Also, its wireless flash capability is built-in, and the remote control is a great addition to this camera. The 18-55mm kit lens is good enough for beginner's use and the handling and external controls are better than other A3XX models.
The A550 really deserves its title for being the best compact camera for average photographers. However, there are some features which are still lacking, or need to be improved vigorously by Sony. To start off with the cons, the default image output is not as good as you think it is- the images seem to be abnormal when it comes to their contrast, noise reduction and saturation. Nevertheless, these default settings can be changed by the user. Another drawback is the unreliable metering that may cause over exposure. The JPEG output is not a good option to capture images. To solve this dilemma, you might want to shoot RAW for better image results.
In conclusion, The Sony A550 is still a recommended digital SLR for beginners and compact camera users.
